Scholar Himeko arrives in a new town and begins cleaning her dusty accommodation when she is interrupted by an explosion and a fleeing woman named Kafka. Revealing herself as a devil hunter, Kafka pays Himeko to take shelter and share the living space. Over the next few days, the two women cohabitate, with Kafka leaving for dangerous missions while Himeko focuses on her academic research. On their final night together, Kafka brings home wine to celebrate the completion of her mission, leading the two to share a bed and an intimate sexual encounter. The following morning, Kafka departs without a trace, leaving Himeko to reflect on their brief affair before discovering a wanted poster of her former roommate.
